Maku on myös voimakas, kiitos voimakkaiden aromien kuten inkiväärin ja valkosipulin, sekä pienen makeuden. Sen filippiiniläinen chilikastikemaku tuo särmää kaikentyyppisille ruokalajeille, samoin kuin filippiiniläisille klassikoille kuten chicken adobo, sisig tai lumpia (kevätrullat).
